Oceanic – a new environmentally friendly fabric

In the face of the growing threat of environmental pollution—especially in our seas and oceans—innovative, eco-conscious solutions in material production are becoming increasingly important.

Oceanic is a fabric created as part of the SEAQUAL Initiative, which aims to combat plastic pollution in our waters and work toward a waste-free world. It is made from 100% recycled polyester derived from plastic waste—such as PET bottles and plastic bags—with as much as 50% coming from innovative SEAQUAL yarn. This yarn is produced from processed plastic waste retrieved from the oceans, giving it a second life and actively supporting efforts to create a cleaner environment.

Turning Waste into Value

Every year, up to 12 million tons of plastic end up in the oceans—a problem growing at an alarming rate. Experts predict that by 2048, the mass of plastic in the seas could outweigh all the fish living in them. The Oceanic fabric is part of the solution—each meter is made from yarn produced using 26 plastic bottles, giving waste a second life and contributing to the protection of marine ecosystems.

Sustainable and Durable

Oceanic comes in a range of versatile, subtle colors, making it an attractive option for various interior settings, both office and residential. The fabric offers good abrasion resistance and holds the Oeko-Tex certification, ensuring it is safe for human use. It can be applied to most Bejot products—from lounge and low seating sets to acoustic systems and swivel chairs.
